Prevention of Child Abuse & Neglect the Self Study Course*

Upon completion of the course participants will be able to:

  • Become familiar with child abuse reporting laws in various states including NY, NJ, MD, & PA.

  • Define and identify the four most commonly recognized forms of child maltreatment.

  • Review risk factors that may contribute to child abuse and neglect.

  • Become aware of the behavioral, emotional, and physical signs that a child is being maltreated.

  • Recognize the most common types of childhood inflicted injuries in order to report them.

OSHA & Infection Control Requirements the Self Study Course

Upon completion of the course participants will be able to:

  • Understand how bloodborne pathogens may be transmitted in the work environment.

  • Review the latest CDC guidelines and OSHA Laws regarding infection control protocols.

  • Review procedures and steps in handling an occupational exposure incident.

  • Review the proper use of personal protective equipment in dentistry.

  • Recognize how to avoid the transmission of pathogens to patients and healthcare workers.

  • Distinguish between cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilization and the guidelines for each method.

Viral Hepatitis the Self-Study Course

Upon completion of the course attendees will be able to:

  • Review liver functions and its role in systemic well-being.

  • Define and review the basic signs and symptoms of liver inflammation.

  • Understand the modes and risks of viral hepatitis transmission.

  • Review the guidelines issued by the CDC for the prevention of viral hepatitis exposure.

  • Outline the prevalence and distribution of viral hepatitis infections.

  • List clinical indicators of both acute & chronic hepatitis.

  • Discuss the clinical features, modes of transmissions, and prevention strategies for viral hepatitis A-E.

  • Recognize the steps to take following an exposure incident and the risks of seroconverting.

  • Review OSHA law in reference to the Hepatitis B vaccine for healthcare workers.
