The Mind and the Mouth: A Dental Approach to Patients with Psychiatric IllnessUpon attending this course participants will be able to: 1. Demonstrate how mental health and oral health are intertwined and how one can impact the other 2. Comprehend how medications used to treat various forms of mental illness can interact with drugs used in dentistry 3. Understand how oral health problems can arise as manifestations of mental illness as well as being side effects of numerous psychiatric medications 4. Enhance their knowledge so as to be better prepared to clinically manage a patient who is suffering from a particular type of mental illness, and 5. Dental Pharmacology, Drug Interactions, and Oral Lesions UpdateThis course will discuss the medications that all dental professional should be aware of, including bisphosphonates and other commonly prescribed medications that may impact on treatment. Drug-to-drug and drug-to-food, plus herbal medication and supplements interactions will be discussed. The course will also include a discussion on the diagnosis and treatment of oral mucosal lesions and the use of diagnostic tools that may help to distinguish benign from malignant disease. Sealant Placement Made Easy!This lecture and hands-on course will guide participants through the simple techniques of sealant placement. Participants will be able to review the basic concepts of the clinical procedure and its role in preventive dentistry. Various isolation recommendations will be provided so as to ensure proper sealant placement technique and retention. The course will also include a discussion on indications and contraindications for sealant placement in addition to, differential application methods for various sealant brands. Dental Caries: Advances in Detection and Disease Management & Assessing Anesthetic Options for Non-Surgical Periodontal TherapyDental Caries: Advances in Detection and Disease Management will address trends in caries epidemiology, describe new diagnostic technologies, and discuss minimally invasive approaches to managing dental caries. Participants will be able to: Recognize trends in caries etiology; Implement the use of caries assessment tools; Compare sensitivity, specificity and reliability of caries detection; and much more. For Assessing Anesthetic Options for Non-Surgical Periodontal Therapy participants will be able to: Explain the neurophysiology of pain conduction; Identify methods to manage the perception of pain; Explain the action of local anesthetic drugs on pain conduction; Discuss the physiological effects of vasoconstriction; Categorize local anesthetic drugs according to type and duration of action; and much more. CPR for Healthcare ProvidersGain the knowledge and hands-on experience to administer CPR effectively and safely. Participants will learn the current guidelines on: 1 & 2 rescuer adult, child, & infant CPR. Rescue breathing using mouth-to-mouth & mouth-to-barrier device. How to manage a foreign body airway obstruction in a responsive & in an unresponsive victim, plus how to use an (AED) automated external defibrillator.
